"it's not the voting that is democracy,"

Picture this situation.

A got a 7 for its' L1R5. After bonus (thanks to its' wonderful cca record), its' L1R5 was ta-da! 5.

Then, there's B. B got a 9 for its' L1R5. Not bad, but not as good as A's. But B's took html in secondary school/attended ZJC in the first three months/was from ZJC affiliated school. In addition, B also had a wonderful cca record. So B's L1R5 after all the bonuses, was also 5.

both A and B applied for ZJC. ZJC cut-off point was partial 5.

B got in. A didnt.

You see, they told TAUGHT us that the Singapore's education system is based on MERIT. Tell me then, why is it that B got in to ZJC and not A? After all, A scored better than B in its' 'O's. B only got into its' position because its' multiple bonus points. If the system is indeed based on merit, shouldn't A get into ZJC instead of B since it obtained a better aggregate?

No, I'm not against bonus points. I think its' perfectly fair and just to give bonus points to those who took HTML. After all, they had a heavier workload than us. Its' only fair if the MOE give them the two bonus points as reward. The 1st intake people deserve their loyalty points as well. The same goes for the affiliation thingy and the CCA stuff.

Say there's a C. Say C also had a L1R5 net aggregate of five, thanks to its' HTML ONLY (let's just presume that C does not have any CCA). If that was a case, I don't mind C depriving A of a place in ZJC. Because its' reasonable (if you still think it's unreasonable, this post is not for you), isn't it?

But lets' just leave that aside for a moment and picture another situation.

Y appealed to KJC based on its' L1R5 net aggregate of 5.
Z appealed to KJC based on its' L1R5 net aggregate of 6.

Now, let us note that Z was from KJC's affiliated secondary school. Let us also note that Z's raw L1R5 was 10 whilst Y's raw L1R5 was 7.

Guess who appealed successfully?

(For those idiots out there, it was Z ok?)

Now, then, justify this statement, "Singapore's education system is based on merit."

MOE doesn't practice what it preach.

(The above situations were based on true stories.)
(This post was inspired by the conversation bewteen a certain Ms. Pissed and a certain Mr. Angry.)

"it's the counting."
